Construction Moving Forward on New UTD Wind Headquarters

A federal spending package passed by Congress and signed into law in December 2022 provided $1.6 million for UTD’s Wind Energy Center to develop a new headquarters for wind energy research on campus. At 4,478 sqft., the new headquarters will feature renovated office spaces for faculty, students and staff as well as an upgraded lobby/reception area and meeting space that encourages collaboration across the various fields in wind energy.

Additionally, the fund will be used to establish the Intelligent Energy Systems Lab, a state-of-the-art testing ground to develop intelligent systems focused on mechatronics and electronics subsystems for wind turbines and wind farms. Construction is expected to begin after the start of the new year in 2024 and the launch of the new headquarters will ensure the development of modern technologies necessary to grow our research and educational programs in wind energy.
